Are you new to Essential Oils?

Essential oils can be an overwhelming topic if you’re trying to learn everything and anything, as quickly as possible. 😰

But with a few basic know-hows, you can get started with diffusing them in your home whilst getting the most benefits out of them! 😃

So let’s get straight into it:

1. Choose a few favourites 😍 – Diffusing essential oils becomes a lot easier if you’re not stuck there choosing between all 94 types and feeling like you have to research them all. But if you find out what you can get a hold of and which scents seem familiar/interesting to you, then take a look at the benefits and use them! This makes it so much easier for you to actually get stuck into using essential oils, rather than getting pulled into all the information that’s out there.

2. Follow a guideline – An essential oil chart is a great place to start if you’re worried about what will smell right with what when figuring out how to make blends. So stick to the guidelines and do what’s tried-and-tested until you get a gist of how it all works. Then you can get the most out of your oils without being put off by something that smells way too strong or just awful.

3. Get a good quality carrier oil 💧 or oil diffuser – All the benefits of essential oils are either from diffusing them or applying them onto your body. So if you use a good quality carrier oil, such as jojoba oil, and invest into a diffuser, you can get all the benefits you could dream of without any complicated recipes. Sure, those recipes will be useful later on but for now, just learn which essential oils are working well for you by simply diluting them before use.

4. If you’re trying to solve a specific problem, concentrate on how you feel 😌 – Essential oils aren’t one size fits all. Different oils work for different people and do different things. So if you’re using them to ease the headaches you get whilst working, to ease your insomnia or to make it easier to wake up 😴 then you’ll need to experiment a little until you find what works best for you. And if you’re doing it just to make your home smell nice, help you feel relaxed and to add an ambience to your rooms, then you need to think about what smells best rather than the therapeutic benefits.

5. Make sure it’s the real deal – There are a lot of fake essential oils out there that are diluted with vegetable oils or just don’t contain any of the real thing at all. Anything that’s casually called a fragrance oil or has more than one ingredient on the list won’t be pure, so keep an eye out for that. If you already have essential oils, then try adding a drop to some tissue paper and see if it leaves a stain once dried. If it does then it’s been mixed with other ingredients and if it doesn’t, it’s most likely pure (some essential oils are thicker than others and can still leave a stain, but this should help you in most cases). 😃

So there you have it!

These 5 tips should help you out whether you’re new to essential oils or not, but if you want to know more about anything in particular just send me an email julie@holistichealthandwellbeinggroup.com

The importance of Living a life that MATTERS.

I wanted to share this with you all.

The three lines which resonate with me are ~

»What will matter is not your success, but your SIGNIFICANCE

»What will matter is not what you learned, but what you TAUGHT.

»What will matter is every act of integrity, compassion, courage or sacrifice that ENRICHED, EMPOWERED OR ENCOURAGED others to emulate your example.

»What will matter is not your competence, but your CHARACTER.

Remember that living a life that matters doesn’t happen by accident, it happens by choice.

Meet my adopted Orangutans Rocky and Rickina.

I want to introduce you to, my adopted Orangutans Rocky and Rickina.

Its a week ago since I adopted these rather cute guys, and it’s a decision that I will never regret making. It’s not only about making a difference in this world with human beings, but it’s also about the impact you can have on the entire universe, which includes the animal kingdom.

I’m personally a lover of all animals, and this was the perfect opportunity to adopt Rocky and Rickina.

Check out the project below to see the fantastic work they do, to rehabilitate these orphans back into the wild.

My donation of £14 a month, goes towards providing care for their needs as well as all the infants at the care centre to ensure they continue to grow as healthy as possible before hopefully being released back into the Wild.

Rocky and Rickinas care includes 24 hour staff care and veterinary care, food, enrichment and of course, forest school where they learn all those orangutan skills which would have be provided by their mummy.

What’s your Why?

If you’ve ever faced a significant crisis in your life you’ll have experienced the power of purpose to tap reserves of energy, determination and courage you likely didn’t know you had.

Your mission was clear.

Your goal was compelling.

Your focus was laser-like.

Your potential was tapped.

The power of purpose is similar to the energy of light focused through a magnifying glass. Diffused light has little use, but when its energy is concentrated—as through a magnifying glass—that same light can set fire to paper. Focus its energy even more, as with a laser beam, and it has the power to cut through steel. Likewise,  a clear sense of purpose enables you to focus your efforts on what matters most, compelling you to take risks and push forward regardless of the odds or obstacles.

Unlike animals, which are driven simply to survive, we humans crave more from life than mere survival.

Without an answer to the question ‘Survival for the sake of what?,’ we can quickly fall into disillusionment, distraction and a quiet sense of despair. The alarming increase in rates of drug and alcohol abuse, depression and suicide, along with the growing reliance on antidepressant medications, seems to indicate many are doing just that.

Likewise, a quick glance at employee engagement statistics points to a crisis of purpose and meaning on an unprecedented scale. Given we’re wealthier today than at any time in history, there is clearly a marked difference between ‘well off’ and ‘well-being.’

German philosopher Frederick Nietzsche once said, ‘He who has a ‘why’ can endure any how.’

Knowing your why is an important first step in figuring out how to achieve the goals that excite you and create a life you enjoy living (versus merely surviving!).

Indeed, only when you know your ‘why’ will you find the courage to take the risks needed to get ahead, stay motivated when the chips are down, and move your life onto an entirely new, more challenging, and more rewarding trajectory.

While there’s no, one pathway for discovering your life’s purpose, there are many ways you can gain deeper insight into yourself, and a larger perspective on what it is that you have to offer the world.

1.  What makes you come alive?

The word inspire comes from the Latin, meaning “to breathe life into.”

Accordingly when you are working toward things that inspire you, it literally makes you feel more alive.

What makes you come alive isn’t referring to taking your dream holiday or watching your favourite team play football (unless you’re called to a career as a football coach or commentator!). It’s bigger than that. I’m talking about a why that moves up the food chain from being about you to being about something bigger than you.

It’s about connecting with what you’re passionate about, knowing that when you focus your attention on endeavours that put a fire in your belly, you grow your impact and influence in ways that nothing else can.

You don’t have to declare at this point that you want to invent the next iPad, solve the world’s energy problems or cure cancer (though you might!). This is about you connecting to a cause that’s bigger than you are, but which is also congruent with who you are, what you care about.

2. What are your innate strengths?

In The Element, Sir Ken Robinson says that our element is the point at which natural talent and skill meets personal passion.

When people are in their element they are not only more productive, but they add more value and enjoy more personal and professional fulfilment. Accordingly, it’s also often where they also tend to make more money!

What are the things you’ve always been good at (sometimes wondering why others find it so hard?)

Are you able to see patterns and opportunities amidst complexity?

Are you creative, naturally adept at coming up with ‘outside the box’ solutions?

Are you a natural born rebel with an innate ability to identify where the status quo is in need of a makeover?

Are you brilliant in the details, naturally good at executing projects with a precision that some find tedious?

Or are you a naturally gifted communicator, technocrat, diplomat, networker, leader, problem solver or change agent? For a free strengths survey visit http://www.viame.org/

Of course, you can also be passionate about things you have no natural talent for, and talented at things for which you hold little passion.

However experience has shown me that we rarely aspire toward ambitions we have no natural talent to achieve. As civil rights leader Howard Thurmon once wrote, “Don’t ask yourself what the world needs; ask yourself what makes you come alive, then go do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.” Indeed they do.

3. Where do you add the greatest value?

Doing work that you’re good at, but which you loathe, is not a pathway to fulfilment. That said, knowing your greatest strengths and where you can add the most value—through the application of your education, skills, knowledge and experience—can help you focus on the opportunities, roles and career paths where you are most likely to succeed and therefore find the greatest sense of accomplishment and contribution.

Too often we undervalue our strengths, skills and the expertise we naturally acquire over time. If you reframe the concept of adding value through the lens of solving problems, you can ask yourself what you’re well placed and equipped to help solve in your workplace, career, organisation or industry.

You can also ask yourself what problems you really enjoy solving, and what problems you feel passionate about trying to solve.  You’ll then be more successful at focusing on your natural strengths and those things you’re innately good at than trying to bolster or eliminate your weaknesses.

4. How will you measure your life?

People who don’t stand for something, can easily fall for anything. Deciding how you want to measure your life means making a stand for something and then living your life in alignment with it.

Ultimately, living with purpose means focusing on things that matter most. Ironically, the things that matter most are rarely “things.”

That said, while some people are in a position to trade the security of a regular salary in order to pursue a passion, many simply can’t—at least not in the short term or without violating core values (like paying off debt or providing for their family).

But following the money and following your heart don’t have to be mutually exclusive. By shifting the lens in which you view what you are doing now, you can profoundly shift your experience of it. No matter what your job, you can draw meaning from it and find greater purpose through how you do what you do.

If you don’t think you’re the kind of person you’d want to work with, then consider that it may not be because of the job you do each day, but your attitude towards it.

Knowing your purpose may compel you to take on challenges that will stretch you as much as they inspire you. Just as a boat under power can handle any size wave if perpendicular to it,  when you’re powered by a clear purpose, there is little you cannot do.

I want to explore with you what my WHY is and MY PURPOSE IN LIFE

My why is about having an impact on individuals life’s, empowering them to be better informed about using essential oils to change their lives.

Whether that is in the role of helping someone who suffers with chronic pain, or someone who has emotional issues or someone who wants to live a healthy lifestyle with the aid of natural remedies.

My why is giving individuals the opportunity to have a better lifestyle, whether that is time freedom to spend with loved ones an/or financial freedom to help them succeed.

My why is caring about each and every individual I come into contact with. Understanding why they feel the way they do. I truly experience other people’s pain on a daily basis. The urge to want to help them is greater than my own pain.

My purpose is to inspire each and everyone of you, to see how you can be successful in everything you do. We all derserve success in what ever form it may be.

My purpose is to encourage you to try something new, go for a new job, start that course you’ve always dreamt of doing. You know, it’s all very possible.

My purpose is to carry on the work of my dear friend who passed away 2 weeks ago, and sadly, I said farewell for now, today. Until we get the chance to meet again.

My purpose is to welcome each and everyone one of you into my life. Be loving, and humble, compassionate and caring. Give you my time, unrequitedly.

I am sure there are many more ‘whys’ and ‘purposes’ for my existence and as time goes on, I will realise fully what they really are.

How to have an impact on a strangers life?

We are all on a journey.

Every day, we are surrounded by other humans. Strangers. Hundreds of lives, hundreds of beating hearts, hundreds of stories.

People starting new jobs, feeling insecure, bringing home a new baby, finding out their mother just passed away, falling in love, making ends meet– we’re all just trying to figure life out. We’re in this together.

Here are some quick and easy tips on how you can bridge the gap. Ways in which YOU can help foster human connection simply by being kind!

1. Look for the Little Things.

If you keep your head up and your eyes peeled for moments to reach out to others or to lend a helping hand, you’ll find that the opportunities are endless.

When it comes to making an impact on a stranger’s life, it doesn’t require a grand gesture. It can be something as simple as letting a car cut in front of you while in gridlock traffic or holding the door for someone as you’re leaving the doctor’s office.

Simple, kind gestures have the ability to change someone’s day, and ultimately their life. Your act of kindness might be the only kind human interaction they have all day and that moment that you create could be the one thing they needed to feel empowered! Your kind gesture will also have a positive effect on your own life as well. Being kind feels good!

If we thought about that as we came across strangers throughout the day, we’d be a lot more understanding and compassionate.

2. Pay It Forward.

An intentional act of kindness has the potential of having a huge ripple effect. When a stranger does something kind, it can inspire the recipient of that action to then pay it forward. Here are some easy ways you can take action and spread kindness across your community:

1. Pay for a person’s coffee in line behind you.

2. Add extra money to the parking metre before you leave. Or if your car parking ticket still as hours on it, pass it to the next person who enters the car park.

3. Take a few minutes to help someone in a wheelchair cross the road or a mother with children, trying to open a shop door.

4. Look into local nonprofits and volunteer.

5. Leave an encouraging, anonymous note on a strangers car window.

6. Choose a stranger at a coffee shop and pick up their bill. Tell the waiter to let them know that this was a random act of kindness and to pay it forward!

7. Leave flowers on a strangers doorstep with an encouraging note or quote, and inform them to pay it forward!

8. When at a funeral;  like I was today, let the person who is sitting on their own, sit next to you and make time to have a conversation.

3. Put Yourself In Other’s Shoes.

Everyone has a story.

You have no idea what someone is walking out into the world with every morning, and what they go home to at the end of their day. Every single person you encounter has gone through something traumatic.

Maybe they are right now.

Maybe the person who cut you off just woke up and had their life completely changed.

You just have no idea what someone is going through unless you sit down and have a conversation with them.

If we thought about that as we came across strangers throughout the day, we’d be a lot more understanding and compassionate.

4. Smile and say Hello!

It’s amazing the impact that a simple smile and “Hello!” at a passerby can have, not only on that person’s day, but on yours as well.

Smiling releases endorphins and serotonin, so you’re not only lifting someone else’s spirits, but it’s actually impacting your own chemical make-up in a positive way!

Now a days, we are so glued to our phones. When you sit at the car wash waiting for your car, everyones faces are down, looking at their phones.

When you’re in a waiting room, no one says hi.

We need to be more intentional about putting our phones down and our heads up.

Instead of looking down at your phone the moment you walk into an elevator, look at the person you are sharing the ride with, smile and say hello!

That tiny change in habit can have such a huge impact on both of your lives!

I’ve written this post in memory of Joanna McGill. Who unexpectedly passed away 2 weeks ago, today I attended her memorial service.

Joanna was a nurse, counsellor and used meditation 🧘‍♀️ throughout her time on this earth, and inspired many people to follow their spiritual paths. Today, I met many we had been touched by Joanna’s caring and compassionate persona. She had a great zest for life, and went to greath lengths to ensure she was doing good in this world. That was very evident from the amount of people who attended her service.

If you get chance to ask their story, then do so. Both ladies I talked to today, had met My dear friend Joanna through her work as a counsellor, they had both been encouraged and guided to either fulfil their roles as counsellors themselves or using other techniques such as ‘Art therapy’. What an amazing ability Joanna had, the ability to inspire others even in their darkest moments. Joanna, you were the brightest star in many lives. You should be proud if all you achieved. I’m in total awe of you.

She deeply loved her family and siblings, and ensured she left her mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her. I know she attended her own service today, a beam of sunlight shone on to her, as she lay in front of us all.

During the ceremony, we were all asked to hold hands, to form a chain. The chain started with Joanna, as she lay there in her beautiful wicker coffin, we were all joined together by her even in death.

I’ve made a pledge to Joanna and myself today, that I will continue her good work. Ensuring that everyone I encounter from this day on, will be impacted in some way.

So I ask you to join my chain, let’s see how many countries Joanna can be linked too.

JOIN JOANNA’s CHAIN OF INSPIRATION

Joanna darling, I’m sorry I’m crying as I write this, and I know you would say ‘just get a gin and have a drink with me’.

I’m sorry you left this mortal world so soon, but maybe, just maybe you were needed to carry on your good work elsewhere.

I know you’ll never be far away when I need you, and that you will guide me down the right path. Until we meet again, take care my angel.
